Espresso Patronum - Harry Potter Café in Hungary
You always wanted to be a witch or a wizard? You are still waiting for your letter from Hogwarts? If one of them is true there is a place for you.
The Repülő Seprű Experience and Magic Café is the first Harry Potter themed café in Hungary, which is located in Budapest. It is founded by Brigitta Borbély who wanted to create a magical world for the visitors. It was officially opened on January 30 after a half-year preparation. In March we tested the place and it was an experience that I will never forget.
In the restaurant the atmosphere is breathtaking, it feels like you stepped directly into the Three Broomsticks. Every little pieces of the decoration are related to the wizarding world created by J. K. Rowling. If you want to feel yourself like one of the students in Hogwarts, you can choose one from the gowns hanged next to the door. All around you there are hints from the book and the movie: the walls are decorated whith pages of the Daily Prophet and floating candles hanging from the ceiling. In the room you can find Hedwig, Harry’s loyal owl, you can touch Dumbledore’s wand, what is more you can put on the Sorting Hat and figure out which house you belong to. There are Lockhart’s cornish pixies kept in a cage, and mandrakes with earmuffs belonging to them to avoid their deadly cry.
Not only the decoration but the meals are connected to the world of Harry Potter. Besides the deservedly famous butterbeer you can taste various magical foods and drinks. I ordered a big bowl of pumpkin soup which was delicious, and a slice of cheesecake with homemade fruit dressing for dessert, which was honestly the best cheesecake I have ever had. The quality of the meals absolutely worth every penny. Some of the drinks are special, because you can prepare them on your own, and it feels like you are in Snape’s Potions class. However, the service was fast and the waitresses were so kind and helpful.
It is a place where children and adults also can enjoy themselves. You can design your own wand and other programmes like quizzes and games are organised in the café, furthermore you can rent the place if you want to spend your birthday in a magical mood. The café’s exact location
is Pacsirtamező Street 36. in Óbuda and it is opened on Thursday to Sunday from
12:00 to 21:00. The capacity of the place is limited, because of that you have
to make a reservation in advance and you can spend maximum 90 minutes in the
restaurant.
